new doc who dis
Hello everyone,
I'm really excited, because my latest documentary, Plato Is A Bitch: A.I. and Bomberguy, is going to come out Saturday the 24th (trailer and premiere here). This project has been the culmination of exploration, reflection, and, ultimately, a challenge.
The inspiration for this documentary came from my ongoing engagement with ideas around AI. I’m a Marxist, and I view automation as incredible and potentially freeing, but that the relationships surrounding the means often make automation feel like a threat. Even so, I realized that the discourse around AI often gets bogged down in technical specifics, while the more significant issue lies in how capitalist property dynamics exploit this form of automation. The release of Hbomberguy's Plagiarism and You(Tube) in December was a turning point, as his individual focus validated many of the points I was making and spurred me to focus my efforts on this documentary.
It’s why my articles slowed down a little bit the last few weeks; while I absolutely use AI for organization and development of work, the work itself is mine. Thus, it’s just not feasible for one person to make regular YouTube videos, write articles, and be in high-gear with the production of what is ultimately a feature film. So, articles were the thing I slowed down. I will likely be ramping up my writing again in the coming weeks, as production on this has wrapped. I will, of course, be working on the next documentary, but it will be a little while before that hits crunch time.
My goal with Plato Is A Bitch is to challenge class and property, neither of which Hbomberguy challenges in Plagiarism. AI is often associated with plagiarism via a misconception that creative labor is incentivized and rewarded in capitalism. Instead, I argue that it's about owning the “winning” property. Intellectual property laws are neither popular nor permanent, so property also needs ancilary justifications, which we see expressed as ethics.
This documentary allowed me to clarify my stance on various issues, including "fan art," which I now realize I had been elitist about. I present a pro-human, pro-creativity argument against capitalist property relations and the Platonic ideology that discourages questioning these systems.
I invite you to watch Plato Is A Bitch: A.I. and Bomberguy with me on February 24th at 4pm EST (as well as the trailer now) here.
Thanks so much for your support!
