Portland isn't that Weird
I’m in Portland for “Dare To Win: A World Beyond Imperialism.” I’m going to make a few jokes, say some crap that matters to me, and host a panel of incredible speakers. You should come if you’re in Portland (actually Oregon City, but it’s the same metro). Here’s the info you need to know to do so. We’ll have a nice chat about important stuff.
We were out in the rain talking to everyone we could find about the Israel-Palestine conflict and how instead of sending money to help blow innocent people up, we should be using the money at home for schools, healthcare, and jobs. Let me tell you: CPI was welcomed with open arms. We had people coming out of restaurants to greet us and tell us they supported what we were doing. One woman even ran out of her apartment to say “hell yes” and talk with us for a moment.
We saw probably a few hundred people over the course of a couple hours, even a lone Thought Slime fan (we only know because he mentioned ol’ Mildred by name). And I kid you not; he was the one person who had anything negative to say. He tried to warn others to avoid “these TANKIES,” but people seemed irritated by his antics and ignored him. To them, he just looked like some goof trying to shit on the pro-Palestine/anti-imperialism demonstrators.
Of course, we invited everyone we met to our event and handed out every last one of our (very snazzy) promo cards:
It was very wet, as one might expect. But as we walked around downtown Portland and a few campuses, we had a very warm reception from a wide range of people — young, old, black, white, etc. All of it will be in the documentary we’re making for this event. In truth, it was a blast.
It was a stark contrast to the Starbucks protest I made fun of in my recent video (which you should watch by clicking here if you haven’t)
Again, if you’re in the Portland area, join us tomorrow. We are building!
