This makes a good point. MN Atty Gen Keith Ellison at a Friends of the Boundary Waters told the crowd all the ways they could release their emotions by going to more rallies and writing more letters. Wtf is HE doing to protect the BWCAW? Blaming Republicans and Putin.

He said that because he knows the ineffectiveness of rallies and letters will demoralize people eventually. You're exactly right to ask what he's doing with his power. Asking that question louder, more directly, in larger groups, more frequently and in as close proximity as possible is when we the people can't be ignored. Physical distance from accountability is what the internet and feckless action groups provide these individuals with power, profit, and control.

Yup. The presentations at the meeting blamed Trump and Republicans and Putin for the environmental disaster yet to come. So I reminded everyone of OBAMA'S FLINT WATER CRISIS. The speakers were forced to admit that both parties are controlled by corporations.

Agree that your emotional state shouldn't be dependent on whether the world does what you want. But continuing to engage with healthier emotional boundaries is only partial detachment. And engaging in any capacity will impact your emotions to some extent. Engaging with tools and systems and messaging owned by our oppressors means that our engagement will be used to continue to oppress us in one way or another. If everyone stopped engaging with political content on the internet we'd have so much more time to pay attention to the shit happening right under our noses, in our communities, in real life. And they are mutually exclusive because at the end of the day we are humans with limited capacity, everything is a trade off. Engagement is a distraction.

The problem with that is you can't not engage with the world, thus needing to have strategies for doing so!

Engaging with your world is different than engaging with The World. It's really sad seeing so many people emotionally debilitated because Trump said a whole nation shouldn't exist. If no one read, listened or commented on that quote everyone would be better off. People need to turn the internet off and look around the family, around the neighborhood, around the town and focus their attention on what those people are saying instead.
